Iceland

Last week I was in Iceland. Browsing around the capital Rejkyevik found some intriguing books of poetry in Icelandic but was unable to read a word. Anyway I brought back a volume by Sjon which I was told was fantastic and I will have a browse to see if I can make any sense of it with a dictionary. Interested to find out that the world order of Icelandic is pretty much the same as English (and indeed the fact that the "ensk" in Islensk is the same word as English surely shows the close links betwen the two languages). Anyone who has any recommendations on Icelandic poetry is welcome to send them to polsycriptum@gmail.com or to comment on this blog. And any Icelanders writing poetry, please feel free to submit them to use for publication.

Hangman's Acre - Janet Sutherland

Janet Sutherland, who is featured on the Profiles section of www.polyscriptum.com, has just published her second volume of poetry. Hangman's Acre is published by Shearsman Books and the cover image is by local Lewes artist Peter Messer. Janet did a reading from Hangman's Acre and her first volume Burning The Heartwood at the Lewes Little Theatre last Sunday, a well-attended event reflecting the interest in her work. Polyscriptum expect to be reviewing the new volume in due course.

www.polyscriptum.com

I've just relaunched www.polyscriptum.com after a gap of several years. The new site is still under construction but is much more focussed on poetry in other languages and translations. We still have a core of good poetry in English mainly from local Lewes poets. I will be updating this Blog from time to time with news about readings and other events, and also inviting comment from others with access to the website.
